n September, Oscar De La Hoya told TMZ (with a straight face) that he's "very, very serious" about running for President of the United States in 2020. In June, Donald Trump officially issued a presidential pardon to Muhammad Ali for a crime he never committed. Last week Mike Tyson announced that he's promoting a cannabis-themed concert at the California pot farm he bought earlier in the year. In August, a journeyman named Curtis Harper stepped out of the ring and walked to his dressing room right after the opening bell. In January, Billy Joe Saunders offered money to a drug addict to perform sex on his friend and slug an innocent passer-by. It was the year of Canelo's "Meatgate" scandal, Mayweather's "fight" with a pint-sized Japanese kickboxer, and Broner's dangerous throw-down with a Brooklyn rapper.
And there was so much more! We rate the weirdest, wildest, strangest, craziest stories of 2018 on this week's Ringside Boxing Show. (Wait till you hear what Jermall Charlo did.)
We also get our weekly update from British correspondent Paul McLaughlin on the hottest news from the United Kingdom, then we introduce you to one of boxing's young meteorites, 21-year-old Ruben Villa IV, a 15-time national amateur champion who will put his 14-0 pro record on the line Jan. 11 in his ShoBox debut.
Dennis Taylor is host of The Ringside Boxing Show, editor/publisher of www.ringsideboxingshow.com, and co-author (with John J. Raspanti) of "Intimate Warfare: The True Story of the Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward Boxing Trilogy," an Amazon bestseller.
