Philip O Connor is an Irish Journalist based in Sweden - His first book “A Parish Far From Home” tells the tale of how Gaelic football brought the Irish in Stockholm together and has been nominated as Sports Book of the Year at the Irish Book Awards.
Here, Philip talks to Nigel about the positives that can be seen in womens sport in Sweden, the importance of role models to young girls in sport and the funding thats needed in womens games to make them viable.
Sweden's national Broadcaster set the goal in 2015 of having an equal balance in sports coverage across both sexes - They now cover both mens and womens sport in equal amounts, their social media coverage is balanced and there is a 65/45 split with men/women in sports media.
