In this episode Mick Swagger chats with Maurine Filip of Stockholm Roller Derb who obtained her Masters degree in Psychology with a focus on Sports and Organizational Psychology. She and Mick discuss #mentalmondays, which aim to give Roller Derby athletes tools to increase their mental game. They also delve into Organizational Psychology as it relates to creating positive and long lasting cultural shifts in Roller Derby. Maurine’s pronouns are she/her. Maurine is a jammer for the Stockholm Roller Derby Allstars. She found derby, after 16 years as a competitive handball player, way up in the north of Sweden where she'd moved to study to become a psychologist. After three year she was welcomed to STRD Allstars and joined the team for their first ever playoffs in Dallas in 2015. Upon moving back to Stockholm, Maurine started her own business, offering sports- and organisational psychology consulting services. She worked with leagues, teams, and individuals, and held workshops and seminars at EROC and EDC. She was recently accepted a position as a clinical psychologist working with kids and youth with permanent disabilities, that after a year will result in her becoming a licenced clinical psychologist. Maurine was voted onto the board of Stockholm Roller Derby in February 2017, and the board of the Swedish Skating association in April. In 2018 she was voted in as chairperson of Stockholm Roller Derby. Maurine was also the sports psychologist for the Swedish Men’s World Cup Team. Despite her busy schedule, Maurine has also manages to fit in Derby officiating. In 2018 she reffed team Scotland, Dublin and Argentina at a tournament in Dublin prior to them competing in the World Cup, and just recently also officiated the best teams in Sweden at Swedish Champs. If you're heading to Euro Derby Con this summer, you'll also find her seminars on Mental Toughness, emotion management, and Existentialism in Derby, as well as on-skates classes for both blockers and jammers.
