In this chapter Moses and Aaron are told to light the golden candlestick inside the tabernacle. And the Levites were washed and purified.

The Levites laid their hands upon the heads of a bullock to make atonement for their sins in the presence of the congregation.

Atonement was made before the congregation to show the Levities weren’t perfect, or sinless but chosen to do their work. They needed to make atonement for their sins too.

No one is sinless. Proverbs chapter 20 verse 9 says, “ Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?”

And since God had chosen the Levites to do their work, the people should honor and respect them.

Yet, the Levites should not exalt themselves above their brethren but serve them with meekness and humility.

Christ once spoke to the disciples, telling them not to lift themselves above others. No one was better than the other.

They were all brethren.

Here's the text:

Matthew 23:8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

Matthew 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Matthew 23:10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.

Matthew 23:11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

Matthew 23:12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

Jesus told the disciples not to call themselves Rabbis or Masters. Because there is only one Master and He is it.

Thayer’s says master means teacher and guide. Scripture says, the Holy Spirit teaches. He is the teacher.

Jesus did not want the disciples usurping authority. There is only one Master and one Teacher.

In John chapter 14 verse 26, Jesus said, " But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."

John said in 1 John chapter 2 verse 27 "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him."

Moses was also told after the Levites reached the age of 50 they were to do no service but to minister with their brethren within the tabernacle.

Here's the text:

Numbers 8:25 And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service thereof, and shall serve no more:

Numbers 8:26 But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge.

So once they reached the age of 50 they were to keep the charge. Strongs says, charge means to watch, that is, the act custody of a sentry, at a post, preserve, safe, to keep, office, ordinance, safeguard, ward.

The AHLB says, charge means a close watching of something for guarding or protecting.

They were to keep watch over the younger workers. Making sure they were doing things according to the laws and ordinances God gave them.

When a man reached the age of fifty he was considered an elder. Scripture reveals 3 types of elders, the young elders as those reaching the age of fifty, then the aged men and women, then the ancients.

And each group of elders were expected to keep their charge. They all had work to do, there was a post they were all required to occupy.

If they failed to keep their post, sin abounded in the land because the people knew not the Lord. They didn't know what he expected of them.

We note when the elders, the prophets, priests and the teachers kept their charge, the land prospered, people were saved, and sin and wickedness did not abound in the land.

In Luke chapter 10 Jesus sent 72 disciples into various cities. They were cities He would later visit but He sent them first. Even John was sent to prepare the way for him.

So it is today, if the church goes forth, preparing the way for Jesus the Christ. He will come with healing in his wings.

Jesus sent out 72 but he wished he could send more. He knew the problems, the sicknesses, and diseases, whether spiritual or physical plagued the land, because the people needed more good shepherds.

So He told the disciples the harvest was ready, he simply needed workers so he told them to pray to God, the Lord of the Harvest.

Heres the text:

Matthew 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Matthew 9:36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

Matthew 9:37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;

Matthew 9:38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
