November 30: Put in me the desire to please you.
📖 Psalm 85:1-9:
Lord, You have been favorable to Your land; You have brought back the captivity of Jacob. You have forgiven the iniquity of Your people; You have covered all their sin. Selah
You have taken away all Your wrath; You have turned from the fierceness of Your anger. Restore us, O God of our salvation, and cause Your anger toward us to cease. Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your anger to all generations? Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy, Lord, and grant us Your salvation. I will hear what God the Lord will speak, for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints; but let them not turn back to folly. Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, that glory may dwell in our land.

📖 Psalm 86:6-12:
Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications. In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, for You will answer me. Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord; nor are there any works like Your works. All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, and shall glorify Your name.
For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God. Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your name. I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify Your name forevermore.

Psalm 85 is a celebratory psalm for the deliverance of God's people after long-term captivity. This is a psalm where the people of Israel had returned to their land but were still suffering the consequences of their wrongdoings.
That is why the psalmist asked the Lord to help them restore themselves and establish themselves in the midst of people who don't want to see them prosper.
The verse that catches my attention in this psalm is the statement of the psalmist in verse 8 where he decided in his heart to listen more to God's voice to receive His peace and direction. He made a point of listening to God so that he would not make the same mistakes of the past again. When he says "to folly”, he refers to the senseless and hasty decisions to commit evil and thus turn away from the Lord. Apparently, the people were already tired of the oppression by the persecution of attacks caused by the enemy, and rather they wanted to return to God to defend, heal and save them.

Turning to Psalm 86, here we also read several very nice verses to reflect on. For example, in verse 7 the psalmist knew that when one cries out to God in prayer and supplication, the Lord answers that prayer. The psalmist had developed and matured his faith that he was completely sure the Lord would answer him.
But verse 11 is the one that I liked the most because it is a sincere and personal petition. I think we should all pray this prayer today and ask the Lord that He, in His sovereignty, teach us to be faithful and give us a sensitive and humble heart to hear His voice and follow His ways so that we don’t stray from Him.
In a Spanish version of the Bible it says: "Grant me purity of heart so that I honor you." In another Spanish version it says: "Make me consecrate myself to you with all my heart so that I can honor you properly." In other words: the psalmist wanted to know in what way the Lord pleases the most in his daily life and he wanted to know the true meaning of a devout life; a life completely surrendered to the Lord.

I hope that these two psalms have inspired us to pray firmly, and ask the Lord for things that are not material but are to improve our relationship with God and that it is one of excellence.

Consider this:
Are you pleasing God in your own way of thinking or are you asking the Lord to teach you to please Him?

Noviembre 30: Pon en mí el deseo de agradarte.

📖 Salmos 85:1‭-‬9 RVA2015:
Oh SEÑOR, has sido propicio a tu tierra, has restaurado a Jacob de la cautividad. Has perdonado la iniquidad de tu pueblo; has cubierto todos sus pecados. Selah
Has dejado todo tu enojo; has desistido del ardor de tu ira. Restáuranos, oh Dios de nuestra salvación; haz cesar tu ira contra nosotros. ¿Estarás airado con nosotros para siempre? ¿Extenderás tu ira de generación en generación? ¿No volverás a darnos vida de modo que tu pueblo se alegre en ti? Muéstranos, oh SEÑOR, tu misericordia y concédenos tu salvación. Escucharé lo que hable el SEÑOR Dios; pues él hablará paz a su pueblo y a sus fieles para que no se vuelvan a la locura. Ciertamente cercana está su salvación para los que le temen, para que habite la gloria en nuestra tierra.

📖 Salmo 86:6‭-‬12 RVA2015:
Escucha, oh SEÑOR, mi oración; atiende a la voz de mis súplicas. En el día de mi angustia te llamaré porque tú me respondes. Oh Señor, ninguno hay como tú entre los dioses, ni hay nada que iguale tus obras. Vendrán todas las naciones que hiciste y adorarán, oh Señor, delante de ti. Glorificarán tu nombre porque tú eres grande y hacedor de maravillas. ¡Solo tú eres Dios! Enséñame, oh SEÑOR, tu camino, y yo caminaré en tu verdad. Concentra mi corazón para que tema tu nombre. Te alabaré, oh SEÑOR, Dios mío, con todo mi corazón; glorificaré tu nombre para siempre.

El salmo 85 es un salmo de celebración por la liberación del pueblo de Dios después de estar cautivo por mucho tiempo. Este es un salmo donde el pueblo de Israel había vuelto a su tierra pero todavía estaban sufriendo las consecuencias de sus malas acciones.
Por eso el salmista le pidió al Señor que los ayude a restaurarse y a establecerse en medio de gente que no los quiere ver prosperar.
El verso que me llama mucho la atención de este salmo es la declaración del salmista en el verso 8 donde él se propuso en su corazón escuchar más la voz de Dios para recibir de Su paz y dirección. Se propuso escuchar a Dios para no volver a cometer los mismos errores del pasado. Cuando dice “a la locura”, se refiere como las decisiones sin sentido y apresuradas para cometer el mal y así alejarse del Señor. Al parecer, el pueblo ya estaba cansado de la opresión por la persecución de ataques causadas por el enemigo, y más bien querían volver a Dios para que los defendiera, los sanara y los salvara.

Pasando al salmo 86, aquí también leemos varios versos muy bonitos para reflexionar. Por ejemplo, en el verso 7 el salmista sabía que cuando uno clama a Dios en oración y ruegos, el Señor responde a esa oración. El salmista había desarrollado y madurado su fe que estaba completamente seguro que el Señor le respondería.
Pero el verso 11 es el que más me gustó porque es una petición sincera y personal. Pienso que todos debemos hacer hoy esta oración y pedirle al Señor que Él, en su soberanía, nos enseñe a serle fiel y que nos dé un corazón sensible y humilde para escuchar Su voz y seguir Sus caminos para no apartarnos de Él.
En una versión de la Biblia dice así: “Concédeme pureza de corazón para que te honre”. En otra versión dice: “Haz que me consagre a ti de todo corazón para que te pueda honrar como es debido”. En otras palabras: el salmista quería saber de qué forma agrada más al Señor en su diario vivir y quería conocer el verdadero significado de una vida devota; una vida completamente entregada al Señor.

Espero que estos dos salmos nos hayan inspirado a orar con firmeza, y pedirle al Señor cosas que no sean materiales sino que sean para mejorar nuestra relación con Dios y que sea una de excelencia.

¿Estás agradando a Dios a tu propio modo de pensar o le estás pidiendo al Señor que te enseñe a agradarle?
