Mullin Automotive Museum Docent, and Art Center Collage Of Design lecturer, Larry Crane gives a clear, and brilliant presentation showing the evolution of combustion engine design. A couple of interesting factoids discovered through Larry's presentation centered on the final evolution in valve placement and head design known as the overhead cam approach (or, dual overhead cam design).

First, this design was initially developed in 1916 and now serves as the engine combustion chamber approach used in nearly every commercial automobile sold on the markert today.

Second, in the 1950's, Chrysler Corporation coined the term for sales purposes, Hemi, to describe the unique nature of the design in the combustion heads of their engines when, in fact, ALL dual overhead cam design engines have a Hemi (meaning hemispherical shape to the top of the combustion chamber which gives room for the valves to function) head since invented in 1916.

This annual day held at the Mullin Automotive Museum, Under The Hood Day - Tuesday July 17, 2018, evolved when many of the visitors to the museum wished to see the unique nature and developmental craftmanship contained in the powerplants of these unique and historic automobile marks from the nation of France.
