It's our first show of the new year and 2023 has already had a harrowing start. The Monday Night Football shock of Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin dropping to the ground in Cincinnati in cardiac arrest is the biggest topic. And, host T.J. Rives and Dr. Jon Lewis of SportsMediaWatch.com are ready to discuss it all. How well did ESPN and their Monday night crews do (or not do) with the coverage? Jon has particular high praise for Scott Van Pelt and has handling of the coverage on SportsCenter. Meanwhile, T.J. wonders why we didn't get more in the first half hour after the collapse of Hamlin from Joe Buck and Troy Aikman? Also, the guys rightfully discuss the total lack of acknowledgement in ESPN's coverage of previous famous incidents happening on a court, field, ice, etc. involving cardiac arrest in North American and even, European sports. And, hosts continuing to utter "this has never happened before" without anyone on or off camera bothering to look it up quickly and give context. The guys then talk the thrilling College Football Playoff semifinals of New Year's Eve. Those saw TCU's crazy, high scoring upset of Michigan followed by defending champion Georgia surviving another offensive bonanza of scoring and crazy plays to beat Ohio State. How do the ratings compare to previous New Year's Eve playoff games. And, what does Jon project for the Monday night Georgia-TCU title game in L.A.? Finally, some "Love it or Leave it?" covers the heroic trainers, doctors and paramedics in Cincy on the field that saved Hamlin's life Monday. And, more with the emotional day for Mississippi State Monday as they won their bowl game in Tampa, FL against Illinois in honor of fallen head coach Mike Leach.
