How much do you know about South Carolina? If you’re anything like me, it might not actually be much. Did you know for instance Chadwick Boseman came from South Carolina, as did the late astronaut Ronald McNair?

The podcaster I’m talking to this week, Marquis Wideman, loves his home state. Along with a handful of his closest childhood friends, his podcast, “Weight of the Eight,” is all about celebrating local culture and representing the place that you’re from. He’d love for everyone to listen to their show, but it's a podcast for South Carolinians above all.

In my conversation with Marquis, we obviously talk about… South Carolina. But we also talk about how podcasting transforms friendships and conversation.

It got me thinking about , just, what happens when you put five men in a room with a microphone. Does the conversation go deeper than it would otherwise? What do they share? In what ways might it strengthen their bond?
