David Dowd cut his teeth working at a surf shop in Long Beach Island at the ripe age of 10 years. He eventually went on to own and operate Division East Skate Shop in Montclair, NJ for over 13 years. His shop became a focal point for skate culture within that community. Division East had to shut its doors in 2012 at a time of upheaval in the skate and surf industry.
