The elephant, life-size (about 4 metres high), is an evocative work that mixes the sacred and the profane, oriental and occidental culture, myth and history, irony and allegory, representing a perfect synthesis of Luigi Ontani’s art in which he is always a protagonist. The artist is present as the main actor in the story, the face of the elephant, in the photos that decorate it, the face of the Indian divinity, are all parts of a single dreamlike journey.

From the beginning of his career, the Orient and the exotic have always exerted a strong attraction on the artist. Cospiqua is his ceramic production realized thanks to the collaboration of Bottega Gatti. Technically the large sculpture is extraordinary, painted with opaque engobes, coloured enamels, pure gold, platinum and lustres, a real record in ceramic sculpture.
