Story Transcript:

En: Beijing, this ancient city of a thousand years, with its complex streets and alleys, is like a maze, stretching endlessly, full of endless mysteries. In the intricate network of its bustling streets and diverse businesses, we found the protagonist of our story, Zhang Wei.

En: The slanting sun cast its rays through the rustling willow trees, reflecting in Zhang Wei's eyes behind his glasses. He wandered through the layered hutongs, seemingly opening doors at will but never reaching the door he intended. Undoubtedly, he was lost - in the heart of the Second Ring Road, where poetry and distant lands were hidden in the alleyways.

En: The dark and secluded hutongs, the dappled light and shadows on the stone road, were like a painting. Zhang Wei asked a trembling old man for directions, and after much contemplation, the old man narrated a long and complex route. Despite Zhang Wei's attempts to appear calm, the confusion evident in his eyes evoked sympathy in others' hearts.

En: Each hutong was like a cold and vivid poem. Following the old man's instructions, Zhang Wei climbed up steps along a pathway and passed by an ancient well, only to end up at an unfamiliar courtyard. Helpless and frustrated, Zhang Wei stood before the courtyard, lamenting his predicament. His precious vacation time was being consumed by this world-class maze.

En: Of course, the journey of the story could not end there. From one person to another, Zhang Wei sought not just directions but the essence of himself within Beijing's labyrinth. Once again, he encountered someone - this time, a little girl with pigtails. Listening to her clear Beijing-accented instructions, he followed the simplest route, avoiding those enchanting yet unfamiliar hutongs, and finally found his way home.

En: The golden light of the sunset bathed Zhang Wei's face, as he felt a newfound ease and freedom. Amidst towering skyscrapers and rapid developments, he sought himself in this ancient yet modern city, only to realize that his truest, most authentic self was within those narrow hutongs.

En: The sunlight shining on the stone roads of the hutongs bore the imprints of Zhang Wei's footprints - witness to his moments of getting lost and his journey of self-discovery. His story no longer revolved around his past confusion, but transformed into how he found his own path. Though he once wandered lost in the vast city, he found a connection to himself and the primal community, sharing his experiences and joys, allowing everyone caught between old hutongs and modern cities to feel a sense of home.

En: From then on, although Beijing's hutongs remained as complex as a maze for Zhang Wei, he had found his direction. He was no longer afraid of getting lost; instead, he would miss the feeling of seeking direction in the alleyways. Because he understood that walking through every hutong in this city, he could find a part of himself.
