Season 3, Episode 7: Living Full Out with Nancy Solari recognizes that for some, the feelings that come with wanting or needing something desperately can transform into obsessive thoughts and behaviors. Our lives can become dictated by these impulses and easily spiral out of control.
Our first caller Ashley is a financially strapped college student who is having a hard time sticking to her tight budget. She wants to be able to go with her friends and do the things they are doing but can’t afford it. Nancy offers alternative options for Ashley to suggest to her friends that will be easier on her budget and reminds her that the more you can experience with others without spending money, the better.
Our second caller Melissa has been having trouble getting noticed and standing out at job interviews. Nancy advises her to take the initiative to improve upon her opportunities. Nancy offers ways that Melissa can utilize her friends and family to acknowledge her strengths and focus on the things that will make her stand out to an employer.
Our inspirational guest, Adam Osmond, once a gambling addict, lost his convenience store businesses after spending more than $1 million of its revenue on lottery tickets. After losing his family and being arrested and convicted, Adam finally hit rock bottom. With his life in ruins, he completed a treatment program where he became free of his addiction and replaced it with a healthy obsession with running.
Our last caller, Alex is a college sophomore at a new school and is having a difficult time making friends and finding her niche at her new campus. Along with suggesting new ways to meet people, Nancy reminds her to focus on the experience and the friends will come but to also be patient and give it time as it can take time to cultivate friendships.
Despite our best intentions, it can be difficult to break free from living under the shadow of obsession. But by understanding that we are able to give up destructive patterns and let go of the things that have the power to consume us, we can begin to live full out.
