We continue Spanish-Language Film Month with an adaptation of a Laura Esquivel novel that challenges notions on familial responsibility, mother/daughter relationships, and more through magical realism and food: Like Water for Chocolate. 80's TV Ladies' Susan Lambert Hatem and Dark Destinations' Father Malone join the episode to talk about the film's history, its unfortunate connection to Miramax, and indie film of the 90s.

Starring Lumi Cavazos as Tita, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery and self-reliance as she experiences a tumultuous life in early 1900s Mexico. Forced to take care of her mother due to her being the youngest child, the film chronicles her life and her yearning for love and affection from an unobtainable source all the while she infuses her cooking with her emotions.
