The materiality and physicality of Jesus' risen form seems to be very important to the Gospel writers. But this isn't about Jesus privately modelling a nice new body as way to convince the disciples to believe, this is is a new creation story of cosmic significance. This is nothing less than a resurrection revolution where Jesus' body becomes a prototype of new life breaking into the world. How can a deeper understanding of Jesus' physical and material form help us in an era of lockdown, social distancing and the restrictions on human touch? How can the church enflesh this new birth that has come into the world?
