In the Gospel reading for the Sunday after the Elevation of the Cross we read "Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. " How do we do that today, though? Bp. Irineos encourages the faithful to carry their crosses through asceticism, through action and through their outlooks. Following Christ is not just a state of mind. It's how we witness to the world.
