This story was personal and I hope you got value for listening. Your inability to talk about your business to people is incompetence and preparedness in itself, regardless of your expertise.
I have always learnt from people that your friends and family are not your customers mostly because they won't value your services

Awwwwwwwww, this one got me,have had an experience like that before,I sometimes talk about my catering services but never my cake business, several times have heard friends say to me,when I ask that they use my baking services,I always get this,so you bake! I didn't know, even for those once I had advertised,I also get replies like ,I didn't know you do sunrise food trays,I would have contacted you.this has thought me to talk about about my business, always running it in their faces, send pictures and videos, not just social media post.thanks for sharing this really hit me

You actually hit the nail on its cap. Most times we hang out with friends and forget to chip in advertisement of what we do, instead we just eat, drink and talk about irrelevant things. And don't be surprised, some know you do those things yet they won't refer you to someone who needs your services. So we just have to keep doing our best to make sure we surface with different forms of publicity

Hmmmm, heavy. Thanks for sharing, not a funny one, heart breaking. I'm guilt of this to an extent. This has awaken me to do the needful before that D-Day of opportunity comes up. Communicating what l do to those close to me and out there is very crucial. Not,just assuming they should know. I got value from this story. Our profession needs to be talked about. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Thou it's sad. I noticed what lack of communication and connection can do to any form of relationships. It's a real food for though and has added value to me...

It's really very painful when this happens, I make sure that's my First conversation to anything of that nature. I may not get the whole package but I get to show off with the piece offered. My family and Friends are my first market.

What a great lesson, well for me I don't joke with my business and I'm not afraid to let my friends and family knows I'm a Pap Producer and supplier of Foodstuffs, they will sa eat. I was talking to an old friend this morning and I told him I don't mind driving down to his house to make delivery even though his place is far to where I leave. We not be ashamed of what we do for a living, they wouldn't pay our bills for us. We should carry our business for head any day any time.

This is nothing but a great lesson, have learnt a lot.let our work be the first thing we talk about whenever we see a friend and family, before any other gist or chatting, cause we might just forget to do so at the end of everything

I learnt deeply from this. This is a lesson for all- I just learnt to talk about the "relevant" first before the regular chitchats. Whether or not you're old or new friends I need to advertise myself to you.

Wow thanks for this message and it is an eye opener too..this is one of the biggest mistakes we make in our daily life which most of us have not noticed. Have learnt a lot from this and I say communication is always the key.

We must not fail to make noise about what we do... Regardless who we think knows or don't know, tell them again, show them again, let it always be in their mind ALWAYS.. That's why Coca cola still informs every one of us till today that they sell coke.. They don't want us to forget just incase we might have forgotten for any reason...

This happens, however it simply states that we as individuals Must all talk about what we do, directly or indirectly to whosoever, even our younger siblings (teenagers) , as small as they are, they can extend your business info to people.. For instance, my fashion business got its first client because I (playfully) informed my little cousins in primary then about my business as they saw my sketches... They then now told their parents and boom I got orders...
