Tonight's show we will discuss home healthcare, nursing home care, and sexuality in Huntington's disease. Our guests: Mary Etta Robertson, Sarah Parker Foster, and Marie Clay. Sensitive subject matter is important to discuss to further educate our international Huntington's peers and caregivers. It is also necessary to remove stigmas regarding what we experience in our community. We thank you for listening!

In Nova Scotia anyone over the age of 18 can be tested for HD, BUT they won't do it for anyone until you have given what is called "informed consent", where they take you and tell you everything about the disease. This is a drawback for many who don't want to go through this.

This is a subject that I talk about with a class at Acadia University. This class is made up of people who will be future nurses, medical professionals as well as law enforcement. They are sometimes surprised that I speak of it so candidly but it is a subject that people have to know. People have to be able to identify with a person so they almost know them.

I did that with my sister. I called her my child more so than my sister.

Sometimes the person with HD won't allow anyone in to help. This is the way it is with my wife. The law here won't allow me to declare her incompetent so if my wife says no, then they have to leave. So I do it completely on my own. My son is 16 so he is still home and he does help but it stresses him out so bad.
