This week Heaven talks about the 1999 Alexander Payne film, ELECTION. Specifically, Heaven will be discussing the cultural view of how the public viewed powerful men fall from grace due to taking advantage of power dynamics and assaulting young women as a sense of entitlement and inability to take account for their own bad actions, such as the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal that happened a year prior to this film's release. Heaven will also discuss male entitlement and another film that came out the same year that dealt with similar themes, AMERICAN BEAUTY, and how victims of these types of abuse can feel as if they have agency in the situation if they went into these relationships willingly despite power dynamics and age.
