In this portion, Jacob, the heel grabber, conniver and deceiver must come to grips with his past. He has to obey the command of the Yahweh and return to Canaan which will involve facing off with his brother Esau who he took advantage of and swindled the birthright and the blessing right from under him. Jacob with encounter the Angel of the Yahweh and wrestle him for a blessing. He knows the importance of the blessing. This portion teaches us the power of transformation when we surrender. Jacob wrestles with the Angel of the LORD until the “breaking of day” and refuses to release Him until he is blessed. As followers of Yeshua, we all must come to the place of encounter and have our own “breaking of day” experience. We wrestle with the LORD because we must be willing to risk all for what He has for us, for His plan and purpose to prevail. The breaking of day is a paradigm shift, it changes everything because in the process of it the One who knows who we really are reveals who He has created us to become and we are changed.
