We often experience shifting emotions. Sometimes it just happens without our control. Sometimes a little mindful focus can give us the opportunity to move from one feeling to another. Flux in particular is a sign that we are moving from general positive feelings to more negative ones.

The highest correlations were found between a person’s perceived ability to distinguish multiple emotions at once and sense when emotions blend and change. Higher reported scores on this variable indicate a higher score in the psychological capital variable of optimism. Upon further research, several studies were found that confirm this relationship. One study found that the relationships between personality traits and both optimism and hope are mediated by emotional intelligence (Di Fabio et al., 2018). With further research, it may be possible to get a reliable score for emotional intelligence by simply testing a person’s ability to sense multiple emotions, emotional blends, or identify how emotions change from one to another. The DEAA is the first step in understanding which type of emotional awareness impacts emotional intelligence.
