Lasers esisting or not, few have taken the time to explain the ignitian temperatures of various materials, for instance, roofing, siding, other building materials, vs the ignitian temperature of various trees that did or didn't burn. Also, if the fire is traveling extremely fast through grass, perhaps the larger trees are not exposed to high heat for very long because the grass flares and burns out so quickly, but if burning embers land on a roof, they may stay put long enough to ignite something, which goes back to analysing the ignitian temperatures to get an idea what's realistic.
