In Episode 25, I interview Dave McKeown, the author of The Self-Evolved Leader. McKeown is the CEO of Outfield Leadership, Former Accenture Consultant and Former COO and then President of Predictable Success.
In the interview, McKeown and I discuss how visionary heroic leaders like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerburg, and Elon Musk foster leadership environments where employees develop a syndrome McKeown calls "learned helplessness." In these cases, employees never reach their true potential because Hero Leaders swoop in and save the day before these employees can learn how to succeed. McKeown points to false "Urgency" as the primary reason why Heroic leaders exist. If you can eliminate Urgency, then a new type of leader can emerge, the Self Evolved Leader.
