Grama, I think of what I do when I see other animals in danger- do I scare animals away if they are in the road, yes! Does a parent animal have a right to protect their young when I get too close- yes. And I think the Sabe respect this but it doesn't keep them from using those means whether to scare us, protect themselves, etc. If a deer was about to get run over I'm sure it would think I was sheer evil trying to scare it, screaming at it, waving a stick or throwing a rock at it to move. If it was a baby and wouldn't spook, I would try to lure it out of the road. As for the Sabe peeking in windows, obviously we have a right to protect our home. I am just thankful they seem to respect "natural law" and respond accordingly, which means at least most, can be reasoned with (which is more than I can say for us- as most animals who we want to capture, torture, eat or toy with don't have a chance to resist us or reason with us.) I 100% agree with you that if a person's gut instinct was to shoot it, who am I to say they are wrong? I just don't think we should have a policy on it- instead, using our feelings / gut instincts and assessing of the individual situation might be wiser than a blanket policy. Since our brains are slow to wrap around what we are dealing with, better go with the heart first- whatever that dictates, rather than the brain until we have a better understanding. The heart doesn't lie but the brain can be tricky. At least that is my experience. I also agree with you not to let oneself get lured anywere- common sense. But I also am not going to shoot someone offering my kid candy, or trying to lure me or them. Just saying no, teaching my kid to say no, letting them know you are ready to protect yourself and your kid is a good idea and usually enough. Avoidinng conflict is always smart but so is showing teeth.

Helen Winter Rose, I think that it would be the VIBE we get from them. Evil vibe to protect us? That, my dear, sounds like an oxymoron. I get where you are coming from, but it could also be their little ones are out with them, it could also be that we are their TV, it could also be their practicing a prowess upon us, or a hundred other things. It could ALSO be that they hate us. Not each and every one, possibly, but I am not prepared to over-trust any of them. I dont even do that for the familiar human species. Like Steve says, go with your gut, and anytime one is trying to talk you into the woods, using head-speak/mind-speak, that is much like an old pervert crooking his nasty fingers at a littlle girl, and sayinng, you want some CANDY??? Now, having said that, it could be useful for you to TELL yourself they are trying to protect you from something even more horrible, so to help you not go insane over the horror. Whatever works.

How would we know they have evil intentions vs are scaring us to protect us from something worse? I think going with the gut is the only way. Acting on principle (ie shoot anything that tries to lure my child) may not be a great idea when dealing with an 8-10 ft interdimensional being that we do not understand in the slightest, with the strength of 10 elephants and abilities beyond our ken. Principles may get us so far in the human world, but in the natural world, I trust my feelings over principle.
