In this encore episode, Kyle and Scott are joined by Dr. Jermaine Thomas, Psy.D. Jermain is a licensed clinical psychologist in Chicago IL. He practices at Cornerstone Counseling Center of Chicago (CCCOC). Cornerstone Counseling is a not-for-profit faith-based organization that provides psychotherapy to a broad array of individuals across the sociocultural and economic strata. He first appeared on Episode 45 the Chicago Psychology Podcast.

In this episode, Dr.Thomas addresses:

· The disproportionate number of COVID-19 cases amidst the African American community

· Trans-generational trauma and epigenetics

· Health issues in the African American community and chronic stress

· Attachment theory as it plays out in African Americans

· Civil Rights, and the history of slavery and oppression

· The current protests that are being held in the wake of George Floyd’s death

This is a very topical, collegial discussion, that raises a number of issues that beg for better solutions. We hope that you take away from it a better understanding of the complicated interplay of history and systemic trauma that the lens of psychology can provide us.
