Deuteronomio 20: ¿Corazón miedoso o valiente?
Deuteronomio 20:1-9 RVA2015:
“Cuando salgas a la guerra contra tus enemigos y veas caballos y carros, un pueblo más numeroso que tú, no tengas temor de ellos, porque contigo está el SEÑOR tu Dios que te sacó de la tierra de Egipto. “Sucederá que cuando se acerquen para combatir, llegará el sacerdote y hablará al pueblo diciéndoles: ‘Escucha, Israel: Ustedes se acercan ahora a la batalla contra sus enemigos. No desmaye su corazón. No teman ni se turben ni se aterroricen delante de ellos. Porque el SEÑOR su Dios va con ustedes, para combatir por ustedes contra sus enemigos y para darles la victoria’. “Los oficiales hablarán al pueblo diciendo: ‘¿Quién ha edificado una casa nueva y no la ha estrenado? ¡Que se vaya y regrese a su casa! No sea que muera en la batalla y algún otro la estrene. ¿Quién ha plantado una viña y aún no ha disfrutado de ella? ¡Que se vaya y regrese a su casa! No sea que muera en la batalla y algún otro la disfrute. ¿Quién se ha desposado con una mujer y todavía no la ha tomado? ¡Que se vaya y regrese a su casa! No sea que muera en la batalla y algún otro la tome’. “Los oficiales volverán a hablar al pueblo y dirán: ‘¿Hay alguien que sea miedoso y de corazón pusilánime? ¡Que se vaya y regrese a su casa! No sea que haga desfallecer el corazón de sus compañeros, como ocurre con su propio corazón’. Sucederá que cuando los oficiales acaben de hablar al pueblo, designarán a los jefes de los ejércitos al frente del pueblo.

Este capítulo es dedicado para instruir a Israel acerca de las confrontaciones que iban a tener en la guerra y cómo debían actuar.
En los primeros versos vemos una de las reglas sobre la responsabilidad del sacerdote, siendo una voz de ánimo al pueblo, recordándoles que el Señor iba a estar con ellos no importando el tamaño del ejército que enfrentarán. Dios les dijo que no se amedrentaran por sus caballos y armas de guerra.
Esto me recuerda la declaración del apóstol Pablo cuando dijo: “Si Dios es por nosotros, ¿quién contra nosotros?” (Romanos 8:31).
Así como el sacerdote era el hombre de Dios, indicado para animar a los soldados, para recordarles las promesas de Dios, igualmente es la función del pastor o del predicador cuando vamos a la iglesia y nos recuerda las promesas de Dios para nosotros los cristianos en estos últimos tiempos, para seguir luchando y no desmayar.
Otro punto que podemos observar es la declaración de los generales y líderes del ejército, que proclamaron a todos los guerreros que, si había entre ellos alguno que tuviera temor o miedo, era mejor que no fuera a la guerra, porque ellos eran conscientes del efecto emocional que pondrían en los corazones de los otros soldados; ya que las palabras y acciones de temor y de desánimo pueden fácilmente contagiar al valiente.
El Señor quería evitar la misma situación que sucedió con ellos antes de cruzar la tierra prometida, y por eso la primera generación no pudo cruzar por culpa de los desanimados y pesimistas.
Por eso el apóstol Santiago nos dio esta advertencia de la persona de doble ánimo en Santiago 1:8: “El hombre de doble ánimo es inestable en todos sus caminos.”
El consejo para nosotros hoy es: si queremos ser victoriosos, debemos guardar nuestro corazón de pensamientos de duda y sentimientos de desánimo, pues debemos creer más al Señor que a esas voces de incredulidad.
Ese es el consejo del apóstol Santiago en Santiago 4:8: “Acérquense a Dios, y él se acercará a ustedes. Limpien sus manos, pecadores y purifiquen su corazón, ustedes de doble ánimo.”
Así que te animo para que seas un guerrero del Señor, esforzado y valiente, estando siempre en un estado de alerta, examinando por donde el enemigo va atacar a ti y a tu familia porque él quiere separarlos y destruirlos.
Recuerda siempre las promesas del Señor, escucha los consejos del pastor y mantén un contacto directo con la fuente de poder que es el Señor Jesucristo, por medio de su Santo Espíritu, cuando le buscamos en constante oración.
Toma y haz tuyo el consejo que le dio Dios a Josué: “Esfuérzate y sé valiente no temas ni desmayes porque el señor tu Dios estará contigo donde quiera que vayas.” (Josué 1:9 ).

Deuteronomy 20:1-9:
“When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. So it shall be, when you are on the verge of battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people. And he shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel: Today you are on the verge of battle with your enemies. Do not let your heart faint, do not be afraid, and do not tremble or be terrified because of them; for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’
“Then the officers shall speak to the people, saying: ‘What man is there who has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man dedicate it. Also what man is there who has planted a vineyard and has not eaten of it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man eat of it. And what man is there who is betrothed to a woman and has not married her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man marry her.’
“The officers shall speak further to the people, and say, ‘What man is there who is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go and return to his house, lest the heart of his brethren faint like his heart.’ And so it shall be, when the officers have finished speaking to the people, that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people.

This chapter is dedicated to instruct Israel about the confrontations they were going to have in the war and how they should act.
In the first verses we see one of the rules about the responsibility of the priest, being a voice of encouragement to the people, reminding them that the Lord was going to be with them no matter the size of the army they faced. God told them not to be intimidated by their horses and weapons of war.
This reminds me of the apostle Paul's statement when he said: "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31).
Just as the priest was the man of God, indicated to encourage the soldiers, to remind them of God's promises, the same is the function of the pastor or the preacher when we go to church and he reminds us of the promises of God for us Christians in these last times, to continue fighting and not lose heart.
Another point that we can observe is the declaration of the generals and leaders of the army, who proclaimed to all the warriors that, if there were any among them who were afraid or scared, it was better that they not go to war, because they were aware of the effect emotional they would put into the hearts of the other soldiers; since the words and actions of fear and discouragement can easily infect the brave.
The Lord wanted to avoid the same situation that happened with them before crossing the promised land, and that is why the first generation could not cross because of the discouraged and pessimistic.
That is why the apostle James gave us this warning of the double-minded person in James 1:8: “he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
The advice for us today is: if we want to be victorious, we must guard our hearts from thoughts of doubt and feelings of discouragement, because we must believe more to the Lord than to those voices of unbelief.
That is the advice of the apostle James in James 4:8: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
So I encourage you to be a warrior of the Lord, strong and courageous, always being on the alert, examining where the enemy is going to attack you and your family. because he wants to separate and destroy them.
Always remember the promises of the Lord, listen to the advice of the pastor and maintain direct contact with the source of power that is the Lord Jesus Christ, through His Holy Spirit, when we seek Him in constant prayer.
Take and make yours the advice that God gave to Joshua: “Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9).
