Deuteronomio 19: La importancia de los testigos.
Deuteronomio 19:14-15 RVA2015:
“No cambiarás de lugar los linderos de tu prójimo, los cuales habrán sido establecidos por los antepasados en la heredad tuya, que recibirás en la tierra que el SEÑOR tu Dios te da para que tomes posesión de ella. “No prevalecerá un solo testigo contra alguna persona, por cualquier maldad o pecado que haya cometido. Por el testimonio de dos o tres testigos se decidirá un asunto.

Este capítulo encierra diferentes temas en cuanto a la justicia que se debería hacer con el prójimo, cuando el pueblo entrara a la tierra prometida.
Uno de esos temas que vemos aquí es cuando una persona acusa a otra de alguna falta o transgresión contra la ley. Dios manda a que, cuando exista alguna acusación contra alguien, no se tome la palabra de solo un testigo o un acusador sino de dos o tres como mínimo. Esta regla la impone el Señor a su pueblo porque Dios sabe lo fácil que es que una persona acuse a otra falsamente en un arranque de ira, de envidia o de venganza.
¿Cuántas veces en un momento de enojo hemos dicho lo que no debíamos haber dicho y hemos pedido perdón a la persona que ofendimos? Imagínese lo peligroso que era acusar a una persona falsamente de transgresión o blasfemia, ya que le podría costar la vida porque bajo la ley de Moisés se castigaba con la muerte.
Aunque ya no estamos bajo el tiempo de la ley de Moisés, este principio de tener más de dos o tres testigos todavía aplica a todo creyente. El señor Jesucristo nos enseña la forma en que debemos confrontar a alguien que esté haciendo algo erróneo en la iglesia. Leamos Mateo 18:15-17: “Por tanto, si tu hermano peca contra ti, ve, amonéstale a solas entre tú y él. Si él te escucha, has ganado a tu hermano. Pero si no escucha, toma aun contigo uno o dos, para que todo asunto conste según la boca de dos o tres testigos. Y si él no les hace caso a ellos, dilo a la iglesia; y si no hace caso a la iglesia, tenlo por gentil y publicano.”
Si una persona está en pecado y eres testigo de su mala acción, el Señor nos manda a que tú primero, en privado, hables con esa persona que está dando mal ejemplo. Si la persona no corrigió sus malos pasos después de hablar contigo, entonces tienes que llamar a por lo menos una o dos personas más para que sean testigos de que tú estás tratando de persuadir a esa persona a que se aparte de los malos caminos, y también estos dos testigos pueden hacerlo. Si la persona que está en pecado no quiere cambiar su forma de ser después de que dos o tres personas intentaron persuadirlo a que se arrepintiera para dejar de dar mal ejemplo en la congregación, entonces lo último que queda es hablar con toda la congregación y exponer a esta persona como un pecador que no quiere cambiar, para que la congregación tenga cuidado con esta persona que sus malas acciones les puede afectar y que estén conscientes de su mal testimonio y su rechazo a obedecer la Palabra de Dios.
Hay una gran posibilidad que la persona recapacite y reconozca su error y se arrepienta cuando vea que hay dos o tres personas que descubrieron o conocen su mal andar y lo corrigen porque desean que él vuelva al camino del bien.
Muchas personas que andaban en malos pasos, se han apartado de la maldad y volvieron al camino del bien, gracias a un líder o hermano en la fe que lo han confrontado con firmeza pero con mucha compasión y mansedumbre. Santiago 5:19-20 dice: “Hermanos míos, si alguno entre ustedes es engañado, desviándose de la verdad, y otro lo hace volver, sepan que el que haga volver al pecador del error de su camino salvará su vida de la muerte y cubrirá una multitud de pecados.”
Por último, no aceptes ninguna acusación contra alguien hasta que corrobores esa información con dos o tres testigos, especialmente si la acusación es contra algún hermano de larga trayectoria en la iglesia, un líder que ha estado al servicio de la iglesia. 1 Timoteo 5:19 dice: “No admitas acusación contra un anciano a no ser que haya dos o tres testigos.”
Y también, si van a tomar alguna decisión en el hogar o con tus compañeros de ministerio, no tomes ninguna decisión solo, cuenta con por lo menos 2 o 3 personas. 2 Corintios 13:1 dice: “... Por la boca de dos o tres testigos se decidirá todo asunto.”

Deuteronomy 19:14-15:
“You shall not remove your neighbor’s landmark, which the men of old have set, in your inheritance which you will inherit in the land that the Lord your God is giving you to possess.
“One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established.

This chapter contains different topics regarding the justice that should be done with the neighbor, when the people entered the promised land.
One of those topics that we see here is when a person accuses another of some fault or transgression against the law. God commands that, when there is an accusation against someone, the word is not taken from just one witness or one accuser, but from at least two or three. This rule is imposed by the Lord on His people because God knows how easy it is for one person to falsely accuse another in a fit of anger, envy or revenge.
How many times in a moment of anger have we said what we shouldn't have said and apologized to the person we offended? Imagine how dangerous it was to falsely accuse a person of transgression or blasphemy, since it could cost him his life because under the law of Moses it was punishable by death.
Although we are no longer under the time of the law of Moses, this principle of having more than two or three witnesses still applies to every believer. The Lord Jesus Christ teaches us how we should confront someone who is doing something wrong in the church. Let's read Matthew 18:15-17: ““Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’ And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.”
If a person is in sin and you witness his bad action, the Lord commands that you first, in private, talk to that person who is setting a bad example. If the person did not correct his evil ways after talking to you, then you have to call at least one or two other people to witness that you are trying to persuade that person to turn away from the evil ways, and also these two witnesses can do it. If the person who is in sin does not want to change his ways after two or three people tried to persuade him to repent to stop setting a bad example in the congregation, then the last thing left is to talk to the whole congregation and expose this person as a sinner who does not want to change, so that the congregation is careful with this person that his bad actions can affect them and that they are aware of his bad testimony and his refusal to obey the Word of God.
There is a great possibility that the person reconsiders and recognizes his mistake and repents when he sees that there are two or three people who discovered or know his bad ways and correct him because they want him to return to the right path.
Many people who were on the bad paths have turned away from evil and returned to the path of good, thanks to a leader, brother or sister in faith who has confronted him firmly but with great compassion and meekness. James 5:19-20 says: “Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.”
Finally, do not accept any accusation against someone until you corroborate that information with two or three witnesses, especially if the accusation is against a long-standing brother or sister in the church, a leader who has been in the service of the church. 1 Timothy 5:19 says: “Do not receive an accusation against an elder except from two or three witnesses.”
And also, if you are going to make a decision at home or with your ministry partners, do not make any decision alone, count on at least 2 or 3 people. 2 Corinthians 13:1 says: ... “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.”
