In this episode, God told Moses and Aaron to take a red heifer, and slay it. To burn the skin, the flesh, the blood and the dung. Then they were told to add wood, hyssop, and scarlet, to the fire.

The priests were told use the ashes mixed with water to purify and cleanse the people from sin.

All of the elements used to make the cleansing water, called the waters of separation represented the coming work of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. Together they would cleanse and separate God's people from the power of sin.

The cleansing water was used to cleanse people, houses and vessels, anything that came in contact with a dead body.

Anyone could be made clean. So God said, the man that "shall be" unclean, would be cut off from the congregation.

So any person that willingly chose not to be made clean by having the waters of separation sprinkled upon him was put outside the camp. He would not be allowed to remain in the camp to defile others and he wasn't allowed to come in the tabernacle to defile it.

We are all born unclean. We all sin, it’s a part of man’s nature. But if we want to remain inside the camp of God, we must be made clean.

God knows we will get dirty, that's a part of living, clean things get dirty, so they have to be re-cleaned.

He knows all of this so he just wants us to be willing to be made clean.

In our effort to be made clean, we must remember Jesus said, the spirit in man is willing to obey God but the flesh is weak.

The spirit in man wants to obey the word and do God's will but the flesh’s ability to resist the pull of sin is weak.

Scripture reveals, we can't cleanse ourselves, it has to be done by Christ and the Holy Spirit. But the cleansing process starts with us. We are told to confess our sin to God and He will cleanse us.

Confessing leads to repentance and John tells us if we do the confessing Jesus does the cleansing.

1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We can’t be cleansed of sin alone, we must go to Jesus to be made clean. He gives us the ability to resist the pull of sin, because the flesh is indeed weak. Yet, the Holy Spirit living inside us strengthens the inner man, who then leads the flesh to do God's will.

By the power of the Holy Spirit, we mortify the deeds of the flesh and are made clean. Romans 8:13 says, " For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live."

Colossians 3:5 says, "Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry."

So, God knows we sin, He simply wants us to overcome sin. And we must acknowledge we need his help to do it.

Jesus once said, without me you can do nothing and that includes overcoming sin. Because the power He has is more powerful than the evil powers of wickedness that enslaves the flesh.

So, if you are an adulterer he wants you to overcome it, if you are a thief he wants you to overcome it, if you are a liar he wants you to overcome it.

That’s why Jesus said, all manner of sin will be forgiven.

David committed adultery but he wasn’t an adulterer, because he overcame it.

Jesus spoke a blessing over the overcomers in the book of Revelation. He even called himself an overcomer. Because he overcame all the wiles, lies and temptations that are in the world.

He never sinned. He never submitted or surrendered to temptation. And he wants us to be like Him, to overcome the temptations in the world.

Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
