In this episode the priests and the Levites were reminded to keep charge of the sanctuary, so no wrath would come upon the people.

Aaron and the Levites were also told that their service in the sanctuary were gifts to them.

Aaron and his sons would spend their lives serving the Lord and the people. They would work no secular job.

And by doing this, they would not be overcome by the cares of this life. By working for God, their minds would always be on holy things. They would overcome the world, the lusts of the eyes, and the works of the flesh.

Paul told Timothy in 1 Timothy chapter 4 verse 16, that by preaching the word, and taking heed, he would save himself and them that heard him.

The priests were also told about their inheritance. They would receive no land or territory like the other tribes. God was their inheritance.

They had the Living God as their inheritance, picturing the Christian’s reward for serving God during their lifetime, since they serve him, they will have eternal life.

The Levites, would not inherit their own land but they would receive 48 cities. They would live within the lands of the other 12 tribes. Serving as their priests.

This seems similar to what Christ said, to his disciples, some had voluntarily left, jobs, professions and their own businesses to follow Him and they would be rewarded.

Here's the text:

Matthew 19:29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

Like the Levites, Christs, followers will be disbursed throughout the land, nations and countries, living in various towns and cities.

Stationed there to serve the people for His namesake. In their towns and communities, wherever they went, they would teach people to obey the things Christ commanded them.

God also gave the priests the tithe as a recompense for their service to Him. And Christ would tell his spiritual Levites a workman is worthy of his meat.

God provided for the Levites and gave them His meat.

And Christ wanted the disciples to trust him to provide for them. They were His workman and worthy of His meat.

So He told the disciples the following:

Matthew 10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Matthew 10:9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,

Matthew 10:10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.

Matthew 10:11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.

Matthew 10:12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.

Matthew 10:13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

Matthew 10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

Matthew 10:15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
