In this episode we continue studying the Book of Leviticus. In this episode, laws for peace offerings are given.

The BDB says, a peace offering refers to a voluntary sacrifice or thank offering that’s given for alliance or friendship.

We note that the offerer killed the animal and handled the fat that was over the inward parts, which included the kidneys, the liver, the flank, and the caul above the liver, the caul is a flap that covers the liver.

Presenting the sacrifice was an outward action but digging inside the body handling the bloody, messy inner parts and stripping off the fat reveals that God is concerned about the inner man.

The inward parts represent what scripture calls the reins, the reins govern the mind, the will and the emotions or the seat of man's affections which were all covered with fat.

We note the heart is not mentioned in the sacrifices or offerings. But the reins, man’s mind, will and emotions affect the heart.

The heart is never burned or consumed on the altar because God wants the heart circumcised as noted in Deuteronomy chapter 10 verses 16 and 17.

Here’s the text:

Deuteronomy 10:16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.

Deuteronomy 10:17 For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:

The fat on the reins is a symbol of pride. Pride negatively affects the heart, starting with the refusal to acknowledge God's authority over your life.

Pride leads to all manner of sin, which starts in the mind and affects the will.

So God requires of all those seeking to remain in a covenant relationship with him to deal with his or her pride.

We are responsible for getting rid of our own pride. We are warned to humble ourselves because, we don’t want God to do it for us, as revealed in Isaiah chapter 2 verse 12 and chapter 13 verse 11.

Here's the text:

Isaiah 2:12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

Isaiah 13:11, says, And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible

In this chapter we are told for the first time that the sacrifice or offering was the Lord’s food.

As more details about the offerings are revealed, we will see that the offerer and the priest ate a portion of the offering together, while the fire of the Lord consumed the sacrifice upon the altar.

So the offerer, the priest, and the Lord ate a meal together. Symbolizing friendship and peace between the parties.

We note that Jesus once caused a stir amongst the scribes and Pharisees when He ate with sinners and Publicans. By eating with sinners and publicans, God through Christ was actually, sitting and sharing a meal with the son’s of men signifying he had accepted them and was ratifying a covenant of peace with them.

Thayer’s says "A Publican was a tax gatherer, a collector of taxes or tolls. The tax collectors were as a class, detested not only by the Jews, but by other nations also, both on account of their employment, harshness, greed, and deception."

Jesus didn’t shun sinners and Publicans but interacted with them seeing they had a need. They were living in darkness and he was the light of the world, he would lead them out of darkness. So when he saw Matthew, a publican, he said follow me and he did.

Here’s the text:

Matthew 9:9 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named

Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

Matthew 9:10 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.

Matthew 9:11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?

Matthew 9:12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

Matthew 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Jesus said, the sinners and publicans were sick so they needed a physician. He had come to heal sin sick souls.

The offerers were also told not to drink blood or eat fat because life was in the blood.

The blood was to be specifically used for the atonement of their soul any other use was forbidden and punishable by death.

God himself would set his face against the person who drank blood and would cut them off.

Here’s the text:

Leviticus 17:10 And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

Leviticus 17:12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.

Leviticus 17:13 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.

Leviticus 17:14 For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.

Because life was in the blood Jesus would shed his blood to make atonement for sin, resulting in the remission of our sins.

Here’s the text: Matthew chapter 26 verses 26 through 29.

Matthew 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

Matthew 26:27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Matthew 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

Strong’s says remission means, freedom, pardon, deliverance, forgiveness, liberty.

Thayer’s notes remission means, forgiveness or pardon of sins, letting them go as if they had never been committed, remission of the penalty.

We note the writer of Hebrews says, Jesus was offered to bear the sins of many at the end of the world.

Thayer’s says end refers to the notion of time, to perform the last act which completes a process.

The last act that proved the end of the world was near, was when Christ died on the cross for our sins and rose from the grave.

The process of the kingdoms of the world becoming the kingdoms of our Lord had begun.

The process continues and it will increase until it overtakes the world. The gates of hell will not prevail against God’s church, God’s governing authority upon the earth.

So the end of world, the world that was run by the one Jesus called, the prince of this world, started a long time ago.

In John chapter 12 verse 31 Jesus said, "Now is the judgment of this world, Now shall the prince of the world be cast out." In John chapter 16 verse 11 Jesus said,"the prince of this world was judged."

He's been judged and sentenced and God has declared that whoever joins Satan's rebellion will join him in hell.

Because like Satan, they reject God's laws and kingship; they refuse to let him rule over them.

Revelation chapter 19 verse 20 says, "the beast, the false prophet and those who receive the mark of the beast and worship his image are cast alive into a lake of fire burning with and brimstone."

And Revelation chapter 20 verse 10 says, "the devil was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and they shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."

We also note that Jesus said, ALL manner of sin shall be forgiven except one.

Here's the text:

Mark 3:28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:

Mark 3:29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:

Jesus died to forgive ALL manner of sin, so we don't have to go to hell. That's something to rejoice about.
