In this episode we continue studying the Book of Genesis. In this episode Jacob and his family arrive in Egypt.

Joseph took his father and five of his brothers to meet Pharaoh. When Jacob stood before Pharaoh, Pharaoh asked him how old he was?

He said "The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.

Although 130 years old, compared to his father and grandfather his days were few. Abraham lived to be 175 years old and Isaac lived to be 180 years old.

Jacob had seen and experienced much evil during his life and now towards the end of his life. He will fare well during the time of famine.

However, the Egyptians will not do so well, things will be very difficult for them. They will run out of money, and they will go to Joseph for grain.

But he did not give them grain for free, they had to buy it. Yet, they had no money. So they exchanged their cattle, horses and livestock for grain.

They went to him again, with out money so they exchanged their land for grain. Then they exchanged themselves for grain.

They owned nothing of value, no cattle, no property, not even their own bodies.

He bought everything and moved the people to cities around Egypt because all the land belonged to Pharoah.

They were pleased with the arrangement saying:

Genesis 47:25 And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servant.

We can say, Jesus has brought all of the land and all of the people on earth for God. We own nothing, even our bodies belong to him. He saved our lives during the time of famine. We should praise him because we have found grace in his eyes, and gladly become his servants.

We note that the Israelites didn't have to buy grain, they didn't have to sell their bodies, nor their flocks or cattle for it.

They could get all the grain they needed for free, because of their relationship with Joseph. They were his brethren and he freely provided for them.

On judgment day Jesus will have the grain or the bread of life eternal life. Our money will fail, we won't have any, nor does it have value in the heavenly country.

But Jesus will freely give his brethren the bread of eternal life and they will live in the best of the land.

But those who are not his brethren will suffer from hunger and experience the famine of the second death because they have nothing to give in exchange.

Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Mark 8:37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Makr 8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
