In this episode we continue studying the Book of Genesis. In this episode there is a famine in the land and Isaac planned to go to Egypt but God told him to sojourn in the land he dwelt and he would bless him.

The general meaning for Sojourn means to dwell, abide and remain. However, the Ancient Hebrew pictograph for sojourn is a picture of a foot and the picture of a man, combined these mean a walking man, it refers to one traveling through a foreign land and is a stranger to the people and it’s culture.

Strong’s says sojourn, means to be a guest in a strange place.

This reveals that we are all stranger’s in this place called the world.

At times it seems as if Christians are living in the land of Canaan. Surrounded by people with foreign customs and thinking patterns that are different from the customs of heaven, our homeland.

Yet, Peter reminds us in 1 Peter chapter 2 verse 11 that we are strangers in this world and must avoid certain customs he said,  " Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul."

We also note that Esau a man of the world marries two Hittite women.

The women were daughters of high ranking officials in the land. Judith was the daughter of Beeri, his name means “my well” and Bashemath was the daughter of Elon.

“Elon” means an oakgrove coming from a word meaning, strength; hence anything strong; specifically a chief (politically); also a ram (from his strength); an oak or other strong tree, a mighty man.

The word Hittite refers to a descendant of Heth coming from a word that means terror.

Elon is pictured as a ram, a symbol of political power, as seen in the book of Daniel.

Daniel 8:4  I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.

This Elon represents a powerful man, who uses his power to do evil.

Yet we see there is another Elon mentioned in the bible, so the first is the father-in-law of Esau, the man of appetite.

The second is Elon from the tribe of Zebulun, the 6th son of Jacob.

This Elon was righteous, he ruled Israel for 10 years (Judges 12:11).

We see in Genesis chapter 49 verse 13, that Jacob, Zebulun’s father prophesied on his death bed that the seed of Zebulun would dwell along the sea and shall be a haven for ships, meaning they would be a wealthy tribe.

Here's the text:

Genesis 49:13  Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea; and he shall be for an haven of ships; and his border shall be unto Zidon.

Moses also gave a prophetic blessing upon the tribe of Zebulun saying in Deuteronomy chapter 33 verses 18 and 19.

Deuteronomy 33:18  And of Zebulun he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out; and, Issachar, in thy tents.

Deuteronomy 33:19  They shall call the people unto the mountain; there they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness: for they shall suck of the abundance of the seas, and of treasures hid in the sand.

So it's possible that one of two Elon's will arise. One can be our worst nightmare and the other a deliverer or as the King James Version says, a savior. Which is a person God sends to his people in the time of trouble. Here’s the text:

Nehemiah 9:27  Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.
