In this episode we continue studying the Book of Exodus. In this episode Moses is told to make the altar. The altar was to be made of shittim wood and covered with brass. The altar had four horns, one on each corner.

The AHLB says, corner means the end of something, something that is cut off, like the cutting off or bringing to an end one who rules within a border, a prince, a captain, or a guide, or the end of a time period, place or process.

A horn is a symbol of power and strength. It’s a symbol for someone with great power, authority and strength. Like kings or rulers in the natural realm or the spirit realm.

We see an example of this in Zechariah chapter 1 verses 18 through 21. In this chapter horns are powerful men on earth who were using their horns or their power to scatter the people in the land. Here’s the text:

Zechariah 1:18 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.

Zechariah 1:19 And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me,These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.

Zechariah 1:20 And the LORD shewed me four carpenters.

Zechariah 1:21 Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.

Although the horns were successful for awhile, God sent carpenters (angels) to defeat them.

The Holy Spirit revealed through David, that God will always be committed to cuting off the horns of the wicked whenever they arise.

Here’s the text:

Psalms 75:10 All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.

We note that the priest would apply blood to the four horns of the altar. Signifying that the blood of God’s sacrifice, that is Jesus Christ, would cut off the powerful horns that ruled the four corners of the earth.

Jesus would overcome the principalities and powers of the air, the powers that sought to scatter the people and cause them to be profane.

The blood of Jesus would become God’s horn. With his horn, he would cause iniquity to shut its mouth. He said, in Zechariah chapter 3 verse 9 that He would remove the iniquity of the land in one day.

In one day, God’s powerful horn would silence the accuser of the brethren. The one who accused them day and night before His throne. He led them to sin then accused them of sin, demanding God to render judgment against them, because they broke the law.

But Jesus would pay the penalty for their sins. And the voice of the accuser would be silenced. There is nothing he can accuse them of, because the penalty for all sin has been paid for.

Colossians chapter 2 verses 13 through 15 tells us that Jesus blotted out the handwriting and the ordinances that were against us and took it by nailing it to HIS cross. Here’s the text:

Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Colossians 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

The penalty for all sin (except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit) has been paid for. But we don’t use our liberty to sin against the Word because of the double edged sword. A double edged sword was sharp on both sides.

On one side of the sword is forgiveness and the other side is God’s wrath if we choose to abide in sin instead of abiding in Christ, after coming into the knowledge of the truth.

We note that the tabernacle had a courtyard with a gate. Gates were entrance points into cities, palaces and marketplaces, places where things were bought and sold.

We note that inside God’s tabernacle redemption took place. Souls were redeemed through blood sacrifice.

Thayer’s says redeem means release effected by payment of a ransom, deliverance, liberation procured by the payment of a ransom, to liberate many from misery and the penalty of their sins, to loose one bound, to unbind, release from bonds, set free one bound with chains, a prisoner discharged from prison, let go, to loosen, undo, anything bound, tied, or compacted together, to dismiss, to annul, to subvert, to do away with, to deprive of authority, whether by precept or act, to loose what is compacted or built together, to break up, demolish, to dissolve something coherent into parts, to destroy, metaphorically, to overthrow, to do away with.

Because of blood sacrifice, God would overthrow the powers of darkness that ruled the four corners of the world. He would liberate the nations by destroying the works of the devil.

We note that the tabernacle also had a lamp that was to be filled with pure olive oil that was beaten. And the light of the lamp was to be burning at all times.

The beaten oil for the light represents Jesus Christ who is the light of the world. He would be beaten for the sins and transgressions of the world.

Jesus said, as long as “I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Then He said, “If I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto me.”

The priests were responsible for keeping the light burning. The church, God’s nation and kingdom of priests are responsible for keeping the light of Christ burning in the world.

They are responsible for lifting him up in the world. When He is lifted up men and women are turned from darkness unto the light. From the power of Satan unto God. (Acts 26:18)

We note that Jesus is the Light of the world and he is also the Word of God.

The Light is the Word of God and the Word of God is the Light of the world. If God’s people live by the Word they will be Lights in the world and the darkness will flee.

And God’s grace would be shed abroad throughout the earth, turning the people from their sins.

John chapter 1 verses 16 and 17 says, And of his fulness have we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
