In this episode we continue studying the Book of Exodus. In this episode God reminds the people that HE delivered them out of the hands of the Egyptians and brought them to himself. They belong to him.

If they obey his voice and keep his covenant they will be HIS peculiar treasure.

A peculiar treasure refers to prized jewels, Jewels that are highly valued and protected.

He also said, if they obeyed his voice they would be unto HIM a kingdom of priest and an holy nation.

Shortly after the declaration, Moses and the people were called to meet God upon Mt. Sinai.

Before meeting the Lord they had to sanctify themselves by washing their garments. We note that Christ died to sanctify the church, so He would have a church whose garments are clean, spotless, and without wrinkle.

Ephesians 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Ephesians 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Sanctification means to make, pronounce, observe or proclaim as clean.

Jesus has made us clean, he’s pronounced us clean but we have the responsibility of maintaining the whiteness or cleanliness of our garments by obeying God’s commands.

Jesus said, there were some in the church in Sardis whose garments were defiled but there were some who had not defiled their garments but would walk with HIM in white garments because they were overcomers.

Those with defiled garments are those who are dead but think they are alive. They were not overcoming the sins and misdeeds of the flesh.

So we see that, although they have breath in their bodies they are dead in sins and trespasses and found not worthy to walk with Christ and will have their names blotted out of the book of life.

Here’s the text:

Revelation 3:1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.

Revelation 3:2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.

Revelation 3:3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

Revelation 3:4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Revelation 3:6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Note that Jesus said, they will walk with him in white because they are worth. He speaks of our responsibility to be worthy of Him and Heaven in the following text.

Matthew 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Matthew 22:8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.

Worthy means deserving and Paul reminds us to walk worthy of God and the vocation of the Christian life and calling.

Here’s the text:

1Thessalonians 2:11 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,

1Thessalonians 2:12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
