On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank returns to Matthew chapter 4 where the temptation of Christ in the wilderness is documented and points out that the temptation of Christ does not in any way imply that Christ was tainted by sin. For sin to take place, there must be a sinful inner response to Satan’s seductive suggestion to sin. Although Satan appealed to Jesus’ natural human desires, our Lord did not fantasize in response to Satan’s suggestion. To mull over Satan’s suggestion even for a moment would have constituted sin. And had Jesus sinned, He could not have been our Savior. As with the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness, temptations are always crouching at the door. It’s as close as a click of your computer mouse and as alluring as easy money. The devil is real and tempts us in myriad ways. This is why the Apostle Paul insistently instructed us to “put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand” (Ephesians 6:13 NIV). From the Garden of Eden to the present generation, Satan has honed the craft of temptation. And he knows full well that without the spiritual armor listed by Paul in Ephesians 6, we are but pawns in his demonic game.
