Our guest today is Jane Thurnell-Read who believes in competing against herself rather than others and now in her 70’s maintains a strict fitness and dietary regime. Jane says she was extremely unfit as a child and lost her way in her twenties with excessive smoking and drinking the hard stuff. It was a lifestyle she completely turned when she started going to the gym and swimming.  By the time she was In her forties she had taken to cycling and in her early sixties she began a more serious gym routine. A vegetarian for most of her adult life she decided to become vegan in her late sixties and is now a trustee for the vegan charity, Veganuary.  Jane’s philosophy is to strive to engage others in physical activity and a careful diet to convince older people that they need to invest in themselves and their fitness. She uses social meeting to prove that it’s never too late to lead an athletic life by setting yourself active goals.
