Thoughts and Prayers.

It is a term we have heard countless times.

You may have heard as you are sharing some deep struggles.

You have heard them as you reach for the stars or your goals.

You have heard them when another shooting, like the one last week, happens in the States.

“Thoughts and Prayers”.

It has also led to many responses like this.

“Thoughts and Prayers”.

These conversations are the same conversations we have had over and over again.

Not only the conversation about guns. But the conversation around prayer.

Since the shooting in Parkland, Florida happened a little over a week ago,I’ve felt compelled to dig a little deeper. Not that the conversation is bad, it’s important. But there are things I feel we can go deeper into.

I think there is a difficult minefield to go over. There are some questions that have to be asked. Maybe we like the answer. Maybe we don’t.

So I’m starting a series of deeper conversations on the themes and outcomes of these discussions.

And one of them is prayer.

Does it work? And when we say work, what do we mean?

Brad Jersak is an author and teacher based in Abbotsford, BC, where he serves as ordained reader and monastery preacher at All Saints of North America Monastery. He also occasionally teaches at Fresh Wind Christian Fellowship. Through his books and seminars, Brad shares the good news that God is Love, perfectly revealed in Jesus Christ. He teaches others how to encounter God through the practice of ”listening prayer,” through which God’s love heals wounded hearts and empowers us to heal this broken world.
Brad Jersak’s foundational book, Can You Hear Me? Tuning in to the God who speaks trains readers in the ways of “Listening Prayer.” This book provides biblical teaching and 33 practical exercises for discerning God’s voice.

He has a new Book A more Christlike God.
Now, before we go on here. I want to make something clear. I understand that many of you are not comfortable with the idea of prayer. I respect that. I thank you for that. If this is not for you, I respect you not wanting to listen to this.
