Greg enjoyed a great career playing 7 seasons of professional football in the NFL and CFL. Something he used to do that most don’t know is that he worked as a clown. He performed at a few events and enjoyed it. His start to football came when he was in 3rd grade. There was a flyer at school about playing at the school. His mom was strongly against him playing, and told him no. However he did end up playing and she became his biggest fan! Even now with the new leagues formed and about to begin, she’s pushing him to make a comeback and return to playing professionally! He chose to play collegiately at Michigan State University, after decommiting to the University of Minnesota. He changed his mind due to the firing of then Gophers coach Glen Mason. He felt after the move that the Spartans would offer him the best opportunity. He proved that was a great decision on his part. He earned many accolades while he was there including 1st-Team All-American and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.

With those lofty achievements he was expecting to be selected pretty high in the NFL draft. However, things didn’t turn out as he expected. He was surprisingly not picked until the 6th round of the draft. Despite that disappointment, he saw the bright side of things and realized that being selected that low, allowed him to be picked by a team that had a much greater chance to make it to the Super Bowl. And that is in fact what happened his rookie season, and he also had the opportunity to start as well. That first play of the Super Bowl was a glorious memory for him. It was quite surreal, as the ball was kicked off and he could hear the flashing of all the camera’s in the stadium. It was a special moment.

Another special moment happened after the game when he proposed to his fiancé. It didn’t occur as smoothly as he hoped, having to scoured the packed field looking for his teammate, who had the ring, and his fiancé as well. Thankfully it turned out well. His time in the CFL was a great experience for him too. He loved the brotherhood that he felt while being a part of the league. After his time ended in Saskatchewan, he moved towards life after football. He’s now VP of Vane Mouthguards, a company started by a former NHL player. They produce mouthguards that help athletes detect when they have suffered a severe enough impact to warrant an evaluation for a concussion. A great product to help make contact sports safer for athletes. For more information on the company and Greg, please use the links below.
