Ko: 서진의 얼굴에는 황당함이 드리워져 있었습니다. 그는 호러 영화를 보듯이, 눈 앞의 풍경을 바라봤지만 무엇을 어찌할지 몰랐습니다. 한국의 전통 시장, 그곳에서 그는 처음으로 정말로 다양한 종류의 김치에 입이 쩍 떡어지는 수준으로 마주하게 되었습니다.
En: Perplexity was written all over Seojin's face. Like watching a horror movie, he stared at the scenery in front of him, unsure of what to do. In the traditional markets of Korea, he came face to face for the first time with a wide variety of kimchi that made his mouth drop open.

Ko: "김치가 뭐 이렇게 많아?" 서진은 혼잣말을 냅니다.
En: "Why are there so many types of kimchi?" Seojin muttered to himself.

Ko: 백김치, 열무김치, 총각김치, 고추장아찌김치 등 한국의 다양한 김치류가 전시된 가게들은 그의 시야를 불투명하게 만들었습니다. 한국에서 태어나고 자란 그에게도 이런 김치의 향연은 생소했습니다.
En: Stores displaying a variety of Korean kimchi such as white kimchi, young radish kimchi, bachelor kimchi, and gochujang-pickled kimchi obscured his view. Even for someone born and raised in Korea, this feast of kimchi was unfamiliar to him.

Ko: 서진은 기이하게 쌓여 있는 양배추 통 하나를 노려보았습니다. 커다란 통을 향해 올려놓은 손은 흠칫하다 그대로 가만히 경직되었습니다. 실수로 건드린 양배추 한 통이 마치 도미노 추처럼 일렬로 넘어가며 과일 판매처를 향해 굴러갔습니다.
En: Seojin bizarrely eyed a stack of cabbage heads in front of him. His hand, lifted towards the large stack, froze in mid-air. Accidentally touching one cabbage caused a chain reaction, just like a row of dominoes, and they rolled towards a fruit vendor.

Ko: "아이고! 나의 사과들아!" 과일 가게 주인의 울부짖음 소리가 시장 곳곳에 퍼져 나갔습니다.
En: "Oh no! My apples!" the fruit store owner's cry reverberated throughout the market.

Ko: 시장에 파도가 칩니다. 사람들이 멈추고, 와글와글 소리가 잦아들면서 우스꽝스러운 소동이 벌어진 장소로 눈길이 쏠립니다.
En: The market was in uproar. People stopped in their tracks, and amidst the fading commotion, attention shifted to the scene of the ridiculous frenzy.

Ko: "죄송해요!" 나도 모르게 자신의 허둥대는 모습을 사우나에 가자고 초대받은 펭귄처럼 느꼈던 서진은 사과가게 주인에게 당혹스러운 웃음을 지으며 사과했습니다.
En: "I'm sorry!" Seojin, feeling like a penguin who had been invited to a sauna and ended up causing a mess, laughed awkwardly and apologized to the apple vendor.

Ko: "괜찮네, 청년아. 이런일도 있지." 묵묵히 사과를 줍는 그녀의 뒷모습에서는 담배같이 뻔하고 투박한 위로가 느껴졌습니다.
En: "It's okay, young man. These things happen," she replied nonchalantly as she quietly picked up the apples, emanating a comforting presence as commonplace and rough as tobacco.

Ko: 그 날부터 서진은 시장을 자주 찾았다. 김치를 사러 간다거나, 양배추로 놀리친 사과가게 주인에게 사과하러 간다거나. 그리고 그는 어느새 그 시장의 일부가 되었다. 그의 목표는 이제, 김치 종류를 다 외우는 것이었습니다. 굴뚝 같은 양배추 통들이 우뚝 서있는 그 곳에서, 서진의 모험이 시작된 것이다.
En: From that day on, Seojin began to frequent the market. Whether to buy kimchi or apologize to the apple vendor he had teased with cabbage. And before he knew it, he became a part of that market.
