Check out the details at https://www.patreon.com/spacetimewithstuartgary * Bizarre looking white dwarf star Astronomers have identified an unusual white dwarf star that may be the leftover remains of a recently discovered new type of “sub-luminous” supernova. The findings also point to more than one process for generating these powerful cataclysmic stellar explosions. *First X-rays detected from thermonuclear supernovae Astronomers have for the first time detected x-rays coming from exploding stars known as thermonuclear or type 1a supernovae. Type 1a supernovae has helped scientists develop their current understanding of the universe, but researchers are still in the dark about many of their features. *A new look at how the Earth was formed New geochemical research indicates that existing theories of the formation of the Earth could be wrong. The claims are based on experiments looking at how the element zinc relates to sulphur under the conditions present at the time of the Earth’s formation some 4.6 billion years ago. *Taiwanese science mission blasts into orbit Space X has continued its rocket launching blitz with Taiwan’s Formosat-5 blasting into orbit aboard a Falcon 9. The flight from the Vandenberg air force base in California, placed the 475 kilogram remote sensing satellite into a 720 kilometre high low Earth orbit. *The Science Report Older lesbian, gay and bisexual people more likely than older heterosexuals to suffer chronic health conditions. Paleontologists have discovered a new species of sauropod dinosaur in southwestern Tanzania. New study finds emotional facial expressions of people influences how humans perceive smells. The new high-tech yarns that generate electricity when they are stretched or twisted. It looks like humans on the Italian peninsula have been making wine far longer than previously thought. Video of the SpaceX launch is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sX-Hlldby8 For Enhanced Show Notes, including photos to accompany this episode: http://www.bitesz.com/spacetime-show-notes Subscribe, rate and review SpaceTime at all good podcasting apps…including iTunes, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Pocketcasts, Podbean, Radio Public, Tunein Radio, google play, etc  Learn more about your ad choices.
