A 20,000 square foot, two story military heritage center is planned for College Station's Veterans Park.

Former Texas A&M system board of regents member John White chairs the center's non-profit board.

He told the city council at their last meeting that the foundational exhibit is the "Aggies Go To War" display that originated in Belgium on the 70th anniversary of World War II's Battle of the Bulge six years ago.

White says foundations were approached for funding the $12 million dollar project just before the start of the pandemic.

He targets groundbreaking in two and a half to three years, with the possibility of opening the center for the 250th anniversary of the declaration of independence in the year 2026.
