There has been a reduction in force (RIF) at the Brazos County health district.

College Station city councilman John Nichols, who is the health district board's vice-chairman, says the RIF adjusts expenses to their available revenue after several years of spending down the agency's fund balance or savings account.

Five fewer positions eliminates water testing services to the cities of College Station and Bryan and to private well owners. It also reduces the focus on health promotion.

Nichols says restaurant and bar inspections will continue as demand requires. And there will be schedule adjustments in other services, including health tests and immunizations.

Nichols says those who have lost their jobs have either accepted temporary pandemic grant funded positions with the health district or have found new jobs.
