Peter Kürten, the Vampire of Düsseldorf, endured a horrific childhood, starved of love and suffering unimaginable abuse at the hands of his father. By the time he was nine years old, he was introduced to bestiality, which eventually escalated to brutally murdering men, women, and children. As a young man, he was in and out of prison for petty crimes, blaming society and prison for his hatred of the world and why he chose to exact revenge. When he insisted that his wife turn him in, Kurten confessed to nearly 80 violent crimes and was charged with nine murders. He was convicted and sentenced to death, dying by the swift blade of the guillotine on July 2nd, 1931.
