The Bryan city council has unanimously approved the first neighborhood conservation district since the threshold to apply for zoning protection was reduced from 66 to 58 percent.

There are 109 addresses in the Eastside historic district, which is generally bordered by Texas, 27th, Ennis, and 33rd Street.

The vote followed comments from Tamara Garza, the president of the eastside district...which the council established in 1983.

Garza pointed out the historical designation restricts the number of unrelated people in homes to two.
