In this episodes, Jessica talks about the importance of social connection. Reach out to Jessica at jessdogert@gmail.com or https://www.jessicadogert.com.

Just as human beings have a basic need for food and shelter, we also have a basic need to belong to a group and form relationships. The desire to be in a loving relationship, to fit in at school, to avoid rejection and loss, to share good news with your family, and to check in on Facebook—these things motivate an impressive array of our thoughts, actions, and feelings.

An avalanche of research shows the incredibly negative impact that loneliness has on health. A large recent review of 148 studies found that strong social connection is associated with a 50% reduced risk of early death. Brigham Young University review shows that social isolation presents a greater risk of mortality than smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, obesity, and lack of physical activity.

The key to healthy aging is relationships. Massive trend: New co-working, co-living, and social/wellness spaces and clubs focused on building face-to-face communities in our age of digital isolation and remote work.

Homework: Actively seek inspiring INPUT from people, places, events to keep your energy tuned at this healthy, joyful high frequency.
