Saul entered into the shallow part of a cave where David and his men were hiding. And they encouraged David to slay Saul. And David cut a piece of Saul's garment and then later called out to him and waived the garment and informed Saul he held his life in his hand and chose not to slay him. Saul then prophesied to David's future and asked him to sware not to cut off his family line, when David came into his kingdom. David agreed and Saul departed.
