Welcome to Questions That Need Answering. I'm Kyle Wilcox. Today is October 14, 2019.

Today's question is, "Can you really be neutral? Or perhaps "what are the implications of trying to be neutral?"

A recent example of this dilemma comes from the NBA. The NBA knows that it should support democracy in Hong Kong, but they also want to keep earning millions of dollars from mainland China.

Overall, I'm trying to think through what it means for an organization to stay neutral on any moral or political issue. It's seems to me that claiming to be neutral or to have no comment necessarily implies that you accept the current state of affairs.

Here are a few more examples of how the idea of being neutral could be put to the test. Can an American church in the 1850s be neutral on the issue of slavery? Can a German company be neutral about selling its products to a concentration camp in the 1940s? Should a high school allow or deny its student athletes the right to take a knee during the national anthem like Colin Kaepernick did? Can a modern American company remain neutral about the issue of gun control in our society?

That's enough questions for today.

Yes, I really am in student loan debt, but if you really want to help how about just contributing to my son's college fund by going to Ugift529.com and entering code Q0J-45P.
