The Value of A Dollar: When I was growing up I was the that kid who just had to put a dollar into every canister of every store I went into, whether it was to rescue pets or feed the homeless, no one ever understood why "I wasted" my money on those things, I would cry and beg and beg and beg for a buck so that I could donate and help some way some how, that was 30 years ago when a dollar went a whole lot farther than it does today, even in such short time period I noticed how the cost for meals and transportation has more quadrupled since then, yet I noticed the majority of individuals who help the homeless still only give a dollar; as if this is the standard legal rate for homelessness? I know for a fact each and every single person is grateful for what they receive, but lets be honest with ourselves, jingle change and dollars just are not going to cut it this winter, most of the individuals out their have families and kids, they live out of their cars and shelters and they ARE truly trying their hardest, they are what is called the working poor, the reason why we only predominately see adults is because they suffer the humiliation so their children do not have too, so the kids friends have no clue, I figured its about time we raised the value of our donations, because honestly a dollar just cannot feed a family of three. It won't kill us permanently to sacrifice our coffee once a week and take those few dollars and give it to someone else, who cares what we think they will use it for, it is not our place to judge, nor do we know what road has lead them there, all I know is this, every soul out their should be looked at as family, the wind can blow and one day it could be anyone of us in that same position, I know from experience, and guess what? A dollar just isn't going to cut it anymore. ~Will "Story" Rivera
