There is hope that the abolition of the right to silence in child abuse cases will get the backing in election year.
The Children's Commissioner has called for the rule change, after a brutal assault of a four-year-old in Flaxmere.
Victim's Rights Advocate Ruth Money says she doesn't like it when law and order gets thrown around in an election year.
But she told Kate Hawkesby that this time, she wants change.
"We're in an election year and I hope for all the children out there someone grabs this and runs with it and fixes this."
The little boy remains in Auckland's Starship Hospital, while police investigations continue.
