The Seven or Eight Deaths of Stella Fortuna by Juliet Grames.
A big, epic novel about the 100 year life of Stella Fortuna who managed to defy death on – obviously – seven or eight occasions, each one being a kind of soundtrack to the narrative of her life. Born into a small, impoverished Calabrian village and having a very close, special bond with her sister Tina, a move to the US under the insistence of their wayward father changed almost everything about their lives – and not necessarily for the better. Over time an irretrievable rift developed between the sisters and a later generation tells us how, and why. Based on the author’s own family.

The Aftermath by Rhidian Brook
A UK Colonel is sent to Hamburg after WW2 to oversee the reconstruction of the city, and decided not to evict the owners of the house which has been requisitioned for his and his family’s use, but to co-exist side by side with them. A recipe for some very interesting dynamics, which has seen a new movie starring Alexander Skarsgard and Keira Knightley.
