  • Football Trademarks

18 APR 2018 · Think of Iceland and you think of cold weather, hot springs and Englands Euro 2016 humiliation. But for all their footballing heroics, it’s the Icelandic football fans who’ve found themselves in hot water over a trade mark infringement. An Icelandic cartoonist has found that he can't sell T-shirts featuring the chant made famous by the country's football fans, because the word has been registered as a trademark. Hugleikur Dagsson produced the shirts featuring the "Hú" chant to mark the country's participation in this years World Cup finals in Russia. I spoke to Neville Walker, the Leading European & UK Chartered Patent Attorney at ipconsult, to find out more about how football chants could, increasingly, become the subject of trademark disputes.

  • Wiltshire Health

21 MAR 2018 · My name is Ian Nockolds and for the past 10 years I’ve been a volunteer sports broadcaster at Somer Valley FM, a community radio station broadcasting across North East Somerset. On February 13th, this year, UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, held their 7th World Radio Day. This years theme was sport, specifically a celebration of its ability to inspire and connect communities. Taking a leaf out of UNESCO’s book I was inspired to use my own broadcasting background to better understand what opportunities exist, where I live, in Wiltshire, for local people to lead healthier happier lives.
